Wednesday, Nov. 19
Devoney Looser and George Justice, ASU scholars (and married couple), will discuss Jane Austen’s novel “Emma,” the history of Austen and her readers and some of the many modern-day film adaptations of Austen’s novels. Justice will discuss editing Emma and lead a conversation about the novel’s brilliant opening pages. Looser will discuss her fascinating research into the ways we have understood and used Austen over time. Finally, the couple will show some clips, lead a conversation and try not to argue too much about some of the recent adaptations of Austen’s novels.
