The $1,000 Box Project: Pioneering pre-symptomatic diagnosis to revolutionize health care

The U.S. health care system is in crisis. Health care spending — topping $2.4 trillion annually — is unsustainable. The system emphasizes treating people once they are seriously ill, rather than identifying disease earlier when opportunity for success is highest and standardized treatments are the norm. This is an expensive way to deliver care, and it is a path to failure on multiple fronts unless we revolutionize our approach.

A research team at the Biodesign Institute is working to develop diagnostic systems that frequently and comprehensively monitor one's health status to pick up good or bad alterations much earlier than is currently possible.
