College of Design

ASU at the Tempe campus

Comprised of a dynamic grouping of disciplines — architecture, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, planning and visual communication design — the College of Design is at the forefront of the global, regional, economic and environmental design questions that are shaping the 21st century. The college is committed to providing a transdisciplinary design education to its students and preparing them to be successful future designers, while strengthening links to the professional and university communities.

From the revitalization of a city center to the development of the smallest handheld device, the College of Design nurtures entrepreneurial thinkers who want to grow their skills, learn innovative design concepts and techniques and advance them as leaders in their professions.

College faculty are engaged in a variety of public and private research and community-based projects supported by the Herberger Center for Design Research, the Phoenix Urban Research Lab and InnovationSpace and enriched by new degree programs that began fall 2006: the bachelor of arts in design studies; and a graduate-level degree in real estate development that brings together study in design, business, law and construction.

Located in the sixth-largest city in the United States and using metropolitan Phoenix as a laboratory, the College of Design is poised to move ahead as a premier design school in the country. As design impacts all aspects of natural and built environments and human interaction at all scales, the college has an enormous opportunity and responsibility to be a force for positive change in the Phoenix metropolitan region and beyond.
