Katherine K. Herberger College of the Arts

ASU at the Tempe campus

Founded in 1964, the College of Fine Arts at Arizona State University welcomed its first class of students in the fall of 1965. In its infancy, the faculty and staff of the college totaled 80. By 2005, that figure grew to approximately 300 faculty and staff.

Today, the Herberger College of the Arts is one of the nation’s leading institutions for the study, practice and development of the arts. The college houses the Schools of Art, Music and Theatre & Film; the Department of Dance; the Arts, Media & Engineering program; and the ASU Art Museum. Each discipline enjoys national ranking and has developed rigorous programs that meet the artistic and professional needs of today’s young artists and scholars. The college’s internationally acclaimed faculty is committed to educating students in a vibrant and innovative environment.

The Herberger College also prides itself on being an active member of the Phoenix metropolitan community. To that end, our four academic units along with the ASU Art Museum and the Arts, Media & Engineering program offer more than 1,000 concerts, performances and exhibits for an audience of over 500,000 annually.  In 2005, the Herberger College for Kids and Herberger College at Large launched hands-on fine arts instruction for children, teens and adults throughout the Valley.

Investments in the Herberger College of the Arts strengthen ASU’s role as one of the nation's leading centers for the study, practice and development of the arts.
