ASU at the Tempe campus
ASU Intercollegiate Athletics oversees and manages all Sun Devil athletic programs at the university and has a proud tradition of athletic excellence. More than 500 ASU student athletes compete in 22 sport programs in the Pac-10 conference, arguably one of the country’s most competitive arenas. Sun Devil student athletes face strenuous academic and athletic requirements, balancing training and competition schedules while achieving outstanding results in the classroom. Thanks to the support of Sun Angel Foundation donors and alumni, ASU student athletes have risen to the challenge in the classroom and on the playing field.
- ASU Athletics recently finished in 11th place out of 117 division I teams in the United States Sports Academy Directors Cup, recognizing the overall performances of athletic departments across the nation.
- For the past four years, ASU has been in the top seven nationally and number one in the Pac-10 for most Academic All-Americans, with 12 student athletes earning Academic All-American status this past year.
- Sun Devil student athletes provided over 1,300 hours of community service, reaching more than 40,000 people in Tempe and surrounding community.
In addition to the national championship titles and Pac-10 conference success, ASU has also received national attention through the development of the Scholar-Baller program, becoming the first athletic department in the nation to recognize student athletes with a patch on their jersey for academic success.
Sun Devil student athletes compete and train at several state-of-the-art facilities including the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center, Sun Devil Stadium, Wells Fargo Arena, the Riches Family Wrestling Complex and the John Spini Gymnastics Complex. ASU Athletics recently opened the Bill and Judy Schaefer Sports Hall of Fame, located in the lobby of the Carson Student Athlete Center, to recognize the rich tradition of Sun Devil student athletes.
