Native American students make up less than 1% of all college students in the U.S., and only about 13% of all Native American people have a college degree. Recognizing a need in New College at ASU West Valley Campus, we created a number of college-preparedness programs aimed at Native American students. This immersive, intensive summer art program is where students live on campus and are encouraged to explore the university’s offerings. This art program is just one of several outreach programs that are geared toward giving young Native American students an early taste of the college experience.
