Learn more about your impact
Through the Dorothy Govekar Scholarship, the School of International Letters and Cultures awards $500 scholarships to help students pay for the cost associated with studying abroad. Faculty-led study abroad programs are meaningful opportunities that allow students to learn the language and culture they are studying in an immersive setting. Our faculty-led programs take students around the world with programs in Italy, Japan, Argentina, Germany, France and Central Europe.
All sectors of the economy have connections to other parts of the world: That means that every business needs people who speak other languages. Not only does global education provide immersive language learning, it provides students with intercultural communication skills that businesses find essential. Your investment will help students become internationally aware and globally informed citizens of today's increasingly complex world.
By relieving financial burden, the Dorothy Govekar Scholarship gave me the opportunity to study abroad in France, which had been a dream of mine since I was little. I was able to polish my French, complete my minor and conduct research for my honors thesis. After graduation, I hope to serve in the U.S. Foreign Service with the end goal of being a U.S. diplomat. Thank you so much for your generosity and believing in the importance of foreign language education and study abroad!"
Impact of donor support
Because of you:
- More learners can pursue higher education. In 2022, 22,000 donors contributed $66.3 million for scholarships.
- More students succeed. ASU ranks #1 among the state's public universities for its 86% first-year retention rate thanks in part to donor-funded student success initiatives.
- And donors helped ASU offer more than 4,500 hours of free tutoring.
Our family believes in giving back and sharing the blessings we have received financially and through our time."
