Visiting Quartet Residency Program
Learn more about your impact
Each year, the Arizona State University Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts invites a distinguished professional string quartet to serve as resident artist-teachers. These ensembles work closely with students on a series of focused projects that form the foundation of a comprehensive chamber music curriculum. Carefully selected to align with specific artistic and educational goals, each quartet brings specialized expertise, ensuring that students receive rigorous, high-level training. Over the course of their undergraduate studies, students have the opportunity to learn from and build relationships with four different major quartets while engaging deeply with the core chamber music repertoire.
The program also emphasizes community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration through projects centered on the creation and performance of new music. The residency culminates in a project that involves over a thousand high school students invited to ASU to hear the resident quartet perform, hear ASU students perform alongside the quartet and engage in discussions and learning about the music. With the same quartet in residence throughout the year, the program also provides a unique opportunity for the community to experience three featured concerts.
Give yourself the gift of art. It’s one of the greatest choices that you can make to enrich your life and expand your philanthropic capacity. Giving to the arts represents an investment in yourself that will yield returns full of meaning, knowledge and joy. It’s also one of the greatest gifts that you can give Arizona. What kind of a public would we be without arts and culture?”
