Learn more about your impact

When you invest in the First-Generation Scholarship Fund, you're lending a helping hand and a spark of encouragement to students who may feel alone and intimidated by the experience of a university. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is proud to support the largest and most diverse student population at Arizona State University. Nearly 30 percent of our students are the first in their family to attend a university, and you're showing them their hard work and determination hasn't gone unnoticed.

It was difficult navigating the process of applying to college as undocumented and a first-generation college student. At ASU, I felt I had the support of educators and peers who cared about me. I was able to navigate a complex, changing world and stay grounded while I was becoming the person I am today."

Reyna Montoya, political science and transborder studies alum, 2012

Impact of Donor Support

First-generation students can change the trajectory of their family lineages. Once an initial desire to pursue higher education sparks in a family, later generations are likely to follow down a similar path to obtain a degree.

Education in a family lineage can change and alter the course dramatically for the number of opportunities that people can realize with a college degree.
