Mosquito-borne diseases are often both a cause and a consequence of poverty. Those impacted are the least able to afford preventive measures and medical treatment. Mosquito-borne diseases also affect our local community in Arizona. Your gift will be used to support students in the labs of Dr. Silvie Huijben and Dr. Krijn Paaijmans and train them in the ecology and behavior of mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit. More specifically, they will study mosquito insecticide resistance and innovative ways to manage resistance, assess the impact of climate on mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit, and design and test new mosquito surveillance and control tools. The ultimate goal of the lab's research is to control and prevent existing and emerging mosquito-borne diseases in Arizona, the U.S. and abroad.
