Your support of Sports Journalism Programs at the Cronkite School prepares students to lead in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the news media industry. More than half of Cronkite students are pursuing a sports journalism degree, which prepares them to do sports reporting, strategic communications, live sports production, play-by-play coverage and more.
Your gift to Sports Journalism Programs helps ensure students receive unparalleled preparation for careers in sports media and communications through courses such as sports writing, sports photography, sports strategic communications, broadcast sports reporting, live sports production, play-by-play, and ethics and diversity in sports.
Donor support also helps students connect to internships with professional sports teams and local, regional and national sports media outlets. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the school's sports bureaus in Phoenix or Los Angeles and cover teams and major sporting events out of digital sports newsrooms in Phoenix and Los Angeles, producing content for local and national media outlets.

- 56% of first-year students at Cronkite during the 2022-2023 academic year are pursuing a sports journalism degree.
- Cronkite sports journalism students receive hands-on experience in the Cronkite News Phoenix Sports Bureau, where they cover sports in the heart of the nation’s fifth-largest city. Phoenix is home to teams from all five major sports leagues, a Pac-12 university, two college bowl games, PGA and LPGA tournaments, NASCAR and spring training headquarters for half of the teams in Major League Baseball.
- Students have the opportunity to cover major sporting events around the world and have reported from the Olympic Games in London and Rio de Janeiro.
