Learn more about your impact

As a young child, Bob Miller watched planes fly near his home in California and knew he wanted to become a pilot. After watching his older brother start his flying career, he began in earnest, flying as soon as he was able. This led Bob to an almost 50-year career in aviation.

Bob's journey first started with the United States Air Force, where he began attending ASU, studying business, while serving at Luke Air Force Base. His Air Force duties involved avionics maintenance on the F-15 Eagle. His first major airline pilot job was with Eastern Airlines. After a strike at Eastern Airlines, he transitioned to United Airlines, where he spent the last 39 years of his aviation career.

In an effort to support other aspiring pilots, Bob and his wife, Keirene, created the Robert and Keirene Miller Aviation Scholarship for students that demonstrated financial need who, absent of this scholarship, would not be able to attend. Students selected have a profound passion for aviation and strive to pursue a career as a professional pilot.

Aviation has been very good to me. It has allowed me to live out my childhood dreams. It would be gratifying to help others live out that same dream."

Bob Miller, scholarship co-founder.
