Inclusive Design for Equity and Access

Learn more about your impact

Your generosity supports initiatives led by the Inclusive Design for Equity and Access office. The IDEA office serves as a promise from the Watts College community to infuse inclusion, equity and access in our work while actively critiquing our policies and practices towards achieving our aspirations. We work in solidarity with internal and external partners to take intentional steps toward being inclusive, encouraging belonging and rectifying harms caused by inequitable institutional practices, policies and procedures. We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can focus on their learning, practice, and research without question of whether they belong at Watts. In line with the ASU Charter and Watts College’s commitment, the IDEA office holds ourselves responsible for infusing an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework that pushes us to go beyond our aspirations through active critique and ongoing reflection of our policies and practices.

Last year, the entire Watts community (students, staff and faculty) was encouraged to apply for modest funding to support initiatives that build on our commitments to be a more inclusive, equitable and accessible college. Nine individuals/groups were awarded, who developed initiatives supporting students and faculty, promoting decolonizing research and revitalizing structures and policies, all centering an anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice. We will be holding another round of mini grant applications in the fall 2022. Some of the feedback received from the past awardees was a lack of funding to help sustain initiatives. Recognizing this gap, we would like to be able to use these funds to continue supporting new initiatives and provide funding for sustainability.

Impact of Donor Support

  • More learners can pursue higher education. In 2022, 22,000 donors contributed $66.3 million for scholarships.
  • More students succeed. ASU ranks #1 among the state’s public universities for its 86% first-year retention rate thanks in part to donor-funded student success initiatives.
  • And donors helped ASU offer more than 4,500 hours of free tutoring.

We want to show the power of a university to be a difference-making partner in the positive transformation of all communities."
