Learn more about your impact

The Cloves Campbell, Sr. Endowment for the Study of Race and Democracy honors Cloves Campbell, Sr. and his outstanding contributions to the community. Mr. Campbell was the first African American to serve in the Senate after a decade of service in the Arizona legislature, where he held positions in both the House and the Senate. He led the Phoenix chapter of the NAACP and was a champion of groundbreaking legislation that benefited Arizona's diverse community.

This endowment, administered by ASU's Center for the Study of Race and Democracy, supports Mr. Campbell's legacy as well as the Center's commitment to socially embedded scholarship and informed dialogue on race and democracy. The endowment is intended to help qualified students pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in ethnicity and race, justice studies, civil and human rights, and African and African American studies. Your contribution to this endowment directly enables students to pursue their educational goals, fostering a new generation prepared to make meaningful contributions to issues of justice, civil rights, and the study of race and democracy, ultimately shaping a more equitable future.

Impact of Donor Support

  • More learners can pursue higher education. In 2022, 22,000 donors contributed $66.3 million for scholarships.
  • More students succeed. ASU ranks #1 among the state’s public universities for its 86% first-year retention rate thanks in part to donor-funded student success initiatives.
  • And donors helped ASU offer more than 4,500 hours of free tutoring.

Our family believes in giving back and sharing the blessings we have received financially and through our time."
