Humanism is a philosophy that asserts the primacy of human agency, reason, ethical responsibility, value and dignity. Humanism has been a guiding philosophical and analytical model throughout decades of ever-evolving scholarship from Hava Tirosh-Samuelson, Regent’s Professor, Irving and Miriam Lowe Professor of Modern Judaism, and Director of ASU’s Center for Jewish Studies for over 16 years. In the tradition of great 20th century Jewish Humanist philosophers including Emmanuel Levinas, Martin Buber, Eric Fromm and Judith Butler, Professor Tirosh-Samuelson, through her many books and articles, has explored human dignity, ethical conduct and inter-personal human relationships through the lens of Jewish textual and ideological models. This fund will enable the Center for Jewish Studies at ASU to support scholarship, programming and collaborations that are focused on these critical themes.Impact of donor support
