In connection with her !Cien Años Fiesta! and to celebrate her 100th birthday on December 22, 2022, RAMONA CAHILL HILDEBRAND, a fourth-generation native Arizonan, desires to provide scholarship funds for Latinos who are seeking to earn an undergraduate degree from Arizona State University. Ramona’s parents, who did not graduate from grade school, always emphasized the value of education. As a proud Mexican-American who loves Arizona State University, providing scholarship funds to a Latino future Sun Devil is the perfect way to celebrate Ramona’s 100th birthday! ¡Es la combination perfecta!

Ramona is the daughter of Santiago Laborin Cahill (Tempe native) and Ramona Gonzales (Phoenix native). Ramona’s maternal grandparents and paternal grandmother were from the same downtown Phoenix area even though Arizona was known then as the Territory of Arizona. She is the youngest of ten siblings, three of whom died as infants. Ramona was born in Phoenix and grew up with seven siblings. Like her siblings, she attended Monroe Elementary and graduated from Phoenix Union High School. Ramona continues to reside independently at her home in Phoenix.

Ramona began attending ASU Football games with her sister Ruth Cahill in 1950 when ASU was known as Arizona State Teachers College. Ramona was an ASU Football season ticket holder for 60 years from 1959 through the 2019 season and rarely missed a home game. When Ramona married Jack Hildebrand in 1975, Jack joined Ramona as a season ticket holder and they enjoyed attending the ASU home games together until Jack died in 1989. Ramona attended Fiesta Bowls in the 1970’s, ASU's second Rose Bowl in 1997, and the 1997 Sun Bowl. She met Coach Frank Kush, Bruce Snyder, Dirk Koetter and Todd Graham. She also met numerous players over the years. Ramona routinely attended the annual ASU Football Awards Banquet until the Pandemic hit. Ramona continues to be an avid Sun Devil fan.

Ramona’s brother-in-law and native Arizonan, Joe M. Limón (Bio-Chemist and Class of ’42); her cousin and famous architect, Barnaby “Bennie” Montague Gonzales (Class of ’53); numerous nephews and nieces; and several great nephews and great nieces; are all Sun Devils.

To all the future Latino Sun Devils, Ramona’s message to you is “Sí, se puede!”
