School of Letters and Sciences

The School of Letters and Sciences offers a liberal arts core curriculum on the Downtown Phoenix campus of ASU, a doctorate of behavioral health and a universitywide bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. We provide foundational instruction in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences for all students on the Downtown Phoenix campus of ASU, and we are invested in the development of learning-centered approaches that lead to student success. The School of Letters and Sciences is designed to respond to the needs of ASU students, faculties of the downtown schools and colleges, the challenges of higher education and our local communities. Guiding principles of the school are embedded student success programs, strategic partnerships both inside the university and in the community, and interdisciplinary inquiry.

The Science Outreach Program brings faculty from the Emeritus College to connect with urban youth and the city’s school districts in order to create a new generation of scientists and science teachers.

The Community Lecture Series brings guest speakers to ASU at the Downtown Phoenix campus, as well as neighboring sites, in order to create dynamic, meaningful interactions between and among the faculty and students of ASU and members of the Phoenix community.

The Certificate in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies provides all students at ASU the opportunity to complement their studies with careful, sustained inquiry into the cultural, social and historical aspects of LGBT concerns through an innovative and responsive certificate program.
