Global Institute of Sustainability
The ASU Tempe campus
The Global Institute of Sustainability (GIOS) at ASU brings together life, earth, and social scientists, engineers, and governmental and industry leaders to share knowledge and develop practical applications to the environmental, economic and social challenges of sustainable development, especially as they relate to urban areas. The institute infuses sustainability into the fabric of ASU’s educational mission and will lay the administrative footprint for the future school of sustainability.
Managing the future development of a city, a region, or even a planet requires realistic collaboration within the environmental, social, economic and political realms if sustainable decisions are to be reached. ASU has joined a number of premier institutions around the world — including Stanford, Harvard, MIT and Cambridge University — as a leader in the important and emerging field of sustainability.
The Global Institute of Sustainability works in close collaboration with nine ASU colleges, schools and institutes, and brings together over 50 associated faculty and 25 community and institutional partners to promote interdisciplinary research, and to develop conferences, workshops and fellowships on human-dominated environmental systems. |
